Summer power becomes winter security.

Charging
In summer, the PV system produces more electricity than the site needs. Instead of curtailing it or selling it cheaply, electrolysis converts it into hydrogen on site. The waste heat already supplies hot water.

Storing
The hydrogen is chemically bound in the metal hydride: solid-state storage at just 35 bar, with no self-discharge, quiet and compact inside the building. This is why this large-scale storage system is permitted where large-scale battery storage fails.

Returning
In winter, the fuel cell turns it back into electricity, and the waste heat heats buildings or the heating network at over 60 degrees. Electricity and heat, precisely when they are needed.
In addition, the integrated short-duration storage serves the fast electricity markets. Each storage system in its own market, orchestrated by Energy Intelligence: revenue stacking instead of dependence on a single revenue stream.

The world's first building-integrated metal hydride DMES plant has been running at full load in Eich LU since April 2024. It supplies operating data, design values and a referenced safety concept, and it can be visited.

The long-duration storage system requires no rare earths and no lithium. All materials are available in Europe, and 80 % of the production chain is located in Switzerland. Storage performance is guaranteed by the manufacturer for over 20 years, and on decommissioning the pure metal returns fully into the material cycle.

Energy Intelligence controls and optimises the plant across hours, days and seasons, self-learning and forecast-based. Monitoring, maintenance and reporting run for the entire duration of the project.
